Families of Early Milford, Connecticut by Susan Emma Woodruff Abbott gives only the following information about Mary, wife of Francis Norton: no known surname or ancestry, seems to have outlived both her husband (1667) and her daughter (1684) whose wills mention her by name ("my loving wife Mary North" and "Mother Norton"), was admitted to the church in Milford on May 26, 1661, she had one child, Mary, who married Joseph Northrup of Milford.

We can assume that she died in Milford, Connecticut. Date unknown.

She cannot be Mary Houghton, married to Francis Norton of Charlestown, since Mary Norton of Charlestown married William Stilson in 1670 in Charleston, whereas this Mary was referred to in her daughter's will as "Mother Norton" in 1684.

The information below from families trees may or may not be correct. I have left it here since the original managers added it. Wethersfield is correct and the date of Mary's daughter (Mary)'s birth is likely correct.

Since the Nortons moved to Milford, it's possible that Families of Early Milford is incomplete. However Savage is quite clear that there is a Francis Norton of Charlestown, married to Mary Houghton and a Francis Norton of Wethersfield, who is married to this Mary (surname unknown).

The family trees cited below (all from FamilySearch) give her surname as Houghton, with a birth place of England and a birth date of 1610 and a death date of August 20, 1690/91. They said that she married Francis Norton circa 1625 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, CT and had children, Mary born 1627 in Wethersfield and Francis born 1625/1635 in Wethersfield. They are mistaking her for the wife of Francis Norton of Charlestown, who was Mary Houghton, and who subsequently married William Stilson / Stitson of Charlestown.
