34 Capt. Joseph6 (Joseph? Nathaniel* Nathaniel,1 Henry1) was born in Ipswich, 14 Oct., 1726; married, 9 March, 1748-9, Mrs. Mary Eveleth. She united with the church 3 Oct., 1764. He made his will* 15 July, 1771; died 10 Sept., 1771; will proved 23 Sept., 1771; wife Mary to have the improvement of all his real estate in Ipswich and Gloucester, until his son Francis arrives at the age of 21 years. The wife, Mary Rust and Thos. Burnham were the executors of the will. Joseph Rust was to have all the lands and buildings at Dammascotta river. Francis Rust and James Rust, under 21 years, to have all his land in Ipswich and pay £40 to each of the following: Henry Rust, Jonathan Rust, John Rust, Parker Rust and Mary Rust, all under 21 years of age. The sons to be bound out to learn a trade when fourteen years of age.

The real estate consisted of land at Daimnascotta,* 100 acres, with buildings thereon. Wise's meadow and upland, 16 acres; marsh and upland, formerly Marshal, with buildings thereon; marsh lying to the westward of Chebacco causeway; Gloucester wood land, two half lots, about 15 acres; pasture land purchased of Eveleth, 22 1-2 acres; great thatch bank two acres, thirty rods; woodland near Fresh Meadow. The homestead of about 15 acres with house and barn. Pew in the new meeting house and half pew in the old one. By the will it appears tbat Joseph Rust was an inn-holder and owned a large amount of land both in Essex county and the District of Maine. "In 1752 Joseph Rust was allowed £23 09s l1d old tenor." f It also appears that he was a slave-holder, as "Scipio and Flora, servants of Joseph Rust, were married 1761." Also "Rose, a negro woman of Mr. Rust's, was found dead in her bed, 1787." After Capt. Joseph died, his widow, Mary (Eveleth) Rust married, 26 Nov., 1772, Rev. Paul Park of Preston, Conn., and thither she went with her son three years old. After the son grew to manhood, he returned to his early home in Ipswich. The mother, Mary, died in Ct., set. 115 years and five months.
