About Mary "Polly" (Meyers) Carey

Three other children were born to Jefferson Cary and Polly Myers, names not known died in childhood.
Polly Myers Cary died about 1852 or 53. She may have been the first person to have been buried in what is now called "Read cemetery", located in Cass Co., about two miles north of Strasburg. On Feb. 12 1874, Alfred Smith deeded one and one-half acres of land to the Trustees of 'Bethel Episcopal Church, South" for a public burial ground. See: Book 104, page 22, Recorder's office, Harrisonville, Mo. It is located in school dist, No. 1, Polk tp. Cass Co. Mo., about two miles north of Strasbury.
The Bethel Episcopal Church was located one and one half miles east and less than one fourth mile south of Read cemetery.
Polly is supposed to be a nickname although she signed her name: "Polly Cary" on a deed, dated June 15, 1849. After Polly (Myers) Cary died, Jefferson Cary m. 2nd: Jan 11, 1855, Elvira Hoil, a widow of Mr. Masten, See Marriage License book ABC, page 254, Recorder's office, Harrisonville, MO. No children by second marriage. Jefferson Cary died, Aug. 1859, and is buried in Read cemetery.
