About Mary (Polly) Ann Montgomery
Mary Earp Montgomery is the daughter of Allen M. Earp and Mary Ann "Polly" Stogsdill. Granddaughter of Josiah Earp and Ellender Hawker, both of Maryland. Josiah was born in 1761 and was a soldier in the Revolution in 1781.
Allen Earp with wife Mary Stogsdill Earp and children Matilda Caroline, Josiah, Mary Ann and William Harrison Earp are all living in Marshall County, Tennessee in 1850. The family removed to Polk County, Arkansas between 1851 and 1855. Mary's sister, Matilda Caroline Earp.,married Sloman White., on April 15, 1851,in Marshall County.They both are buried in Ganderville Cemetery, Summers, Washington County, Arkansas. Matilda died December 3, 1918.
Her sister Susannah Earp married ,John Wesley Scott., After Susannah died their other sister Anna married John after her husband Allen Woods died.
Mary's sister Ellender "Nell' Earp.,married first, William Robert Batey who died in 1852, she then married Fielding Strawn about 1855, he died in Arkansas in 1866,Nell died in Erath County Texas.
Mary's brother, William Harrison "Will" Earp.,signed his brother-in-law, James Montgomery's Civil war discharge papers. Will,along with his brother Josiah,and brother-in-law's Jim Montgomerty, and Slo White all traveled to Mt. Vernon , Missouri , and enlisted on August 17, 1861 in the Confederate Army. This writer's other great grandfather Jacob Haldeman Redifer was also in Missouri, and enlisted August 2, 1862 into the Union, Missouri Cavalry.
Capt.William Harrison Earp married Narcissus Jane "Nannie" Boyle, daughter to Peter Boyle and Linnie Kemp. Will and Nannie are both buried in Hickey Cemetery, Erath County, Texas.
Brother,Josiah Allen Earp, married in 1853-1854 in Dallas , Polk County, Arkansas,Mary Elizabeth Pirtle, daughter to James Pirtle and Charity Roberts. Josiah and Elizabeth had a known fourteen children.They both died in Eastland County, Texas. This writer has copies of letters written to Josiah, Elizabeth Pirtle Earp, and William Harrison Earp from my great great grandfather James Montgomery and my great grandmother Effie Gennette Lowe Montgomery.
My gg-grandparents ,Mary Ann "Polly " Earp and James Hamilton Montgomery were married on August 7, 1856 in Polk County, Arkansas.
Polly's death certificate states she died from goiter cancer.
Note of Interest: Mary Earp Montgomery is my 2nd great grandmother.
