William Sayers was born in New Jersey in 1729 and died in Greene Co. PA on Sept. 16 1796. He was buried in the old cemetery outside Fort Jackson, which has since been destroyed. His marker was found at this site by Honorable A. H. Sayers, and is in possession of the family.
William Sayers married at Cohansey, May 25, 1762 Mary Fithian, who died at Waynesburg in 1809. During the Revolution William Sayers served as a Lt. in the 12 Battalion of Foot from Philadelphia, William Cook, Colonel in Command. He was engaged in the battles of Bonnell Brook, Brandywine and Germantown. (Penna. Arch. Series II Vol. 10 pp. 757-580) The will of William Sayers is on file in Greene County Will Book 1. pp.2 and was probated on October 14, 1796.
