About Mary Sewell - Handy

There is some controversy over WHICH Mary Sewell was married to Samuel Handy I. There are publications pointing to two different fathers, Thomas Sewell and Henry Sewell leading me to believe that Mary Sewell was a common name in Maryland at the time.

Apparently the other Mary Sewell was married to Col. William Chandler. She also remarried, after his death, to Captain George Brent, son of George and Marianna.

She died in the late 1690's during childbirth, while Samuel's wife Mary Sewell was alive and birthing children into the 1700's.

Thomas Sewell was married to Jane somebody, but she wasn't Jane Lowe - who married *Henry* SewAll (similar spelling, different family or branch of family).

The SewAll link to the Calverts makes them better known and dcumented than the SewElls. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Calvert,_3rd_Baron_Baltimore
