Mary "Geneal" Smith Goodman, 91, died Aug 23, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Lincoln Goodman, daughter Mary Fern, as well as her second husband G. Melvin Johnson. Survivors included Roland (Judy), Michael (Claudia), Lincoln (Lorry), Gale (Teresa), Robin (Don) Cluff, Cindy (Bill) Clites, Kelly (Cheryl), and over 150 loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Geneal was born in Virden, New Mexico, in 1921. Her life's passion consisted of building a loving family. She served two missions for the LDS church and traveled extensively. She will be dearly missed. Viewing will be from 6-8 pm Monday Aug 27 at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 28th at the Chandler East Stake Center, 21320 S Greenfield, Gilbert, Arizona, at 10 am. A graveside service will be held in Taylor at 5pm at the Reed Hatch Memorial cemetery where Geneal will be placed beside her husband Paul.

Paul Lincoln Goodman and Mary Geneal Smith were married February 9, 1939, in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. George Melvin Johnson Sr. and Mary Geneal Smith Goodman were married June 30 2001 in Pima, Graham, Arizona.

OBITUARY: White Mountain Independent posted Aug 28, 2012; Mary "Geneal" Smith Goodman, 91, died peacefully at home Aug. 23, 2012.

Geneal was born in Virden, New Mexico, in 1921. Her life's passion consisted of building a wonderful loving family. She served two missions for the LDS church and traveled extensively. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her first husband Paul Lincoln Goodman, daughter Mary Fern, as well as her second husband G. Melvin Johnson.

Survivors include Roland and Judy Goodman of Green Valley, Michael and Claudia Goodman of St. Johns, Lincoln and Lorry Goodman of Gilbert, Gale and Teresa Goodman of Apache Junction, Robin and Don Cluff of Pima, Cindy and Bill Clites of Queen Creek, Kelly and Cheryl Goodman of Gilbert, and over 150 loving grandchildren and great grandchildren and her sister, Barbara Pedersen from Bakersfield, California.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Chandler East Stake Center, 21320 S Greenfield in Gilbert, AZ at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held in Taylor at 5 p.m. at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery where Geneal will be placed beside her husband Paul.

Per the 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Geneal was 9 years old, living in Santa Paula, Ventura County, with her mother, Marba, 28, and step-father, Arthur Kilbreth, 50, and half-sister, June Kilbreth, 3 years, 9 months old. Her step-father was working as an oil salesman. By 1935 they were living in Taylor, Arizona on Pine Street. In the 1940 census, Mary Geneal, 19, was living in Gila, Arizona. Previously, Geneal had been living in Bakersfield, California. In 1940, she was living with her husband, Paul T. Goodman, 26, and their son Paul Roland Goodman, 3 months old. They were renting their home for $17.00 per month. Paul was a public school teacher who earned $862 income for the year 1939 when he worked 48 weeks at 35 hours per week. Geneal was living in Mesa, Arizona, in 1993, at two different locations, 2113 E. El Moro Avenue, and 2055 E. Broadway Road, Apartment 124, according to U.S. City Directories. She was living in Gilbert, Maricopa, Arizona, at the time of her death in 2012.
