The Burlington Hawk-Eye, Burlington, Iowa, February 22, 1913:
Morning Sun (IA), February 21. -- Mrs. Ishman Thomas passed away at her home in this place Wednesday, February 19, at 5:30 a.m., she having been in poor health for some time, caused by heart trouble.
Miss Jane Strope was born in Fayette county, Ohio, November 17, 1839, and came to Iowa with her parents when five years of age. She was united in marriage September 1861, with Ishman (sic) Thomas. To this union were born eight children, four having preceded the mother in death. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and the following children. Mrs. Ella Harris of Wapello, Mrs. Anna Duryea of South Bend, Washington; Mrs. Sallee Gawthrop of Pharr, Texas, and Miss Lonnie Thomas at home.
The funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, conducted by Reverend George Blagg, assisted by the other pastors. Interment in Elmwood cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the M. E. church and was a good woman, well and favorably known. She will be missed and mourned by a large circle of friends and relatives. The sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing family.
