About Mary Parker Thompson
Mrs. Mary Parker Thompson, widow of the late Chief Justice Thompson, of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, died Tuesday at 1630 Spruce Street, aged 90 years. She was the only daughter of the Rev. Nathaniel Randolph Snowden, D.D., who was the first Presbyterian minister in Harrisburg, having charge of the infant church of that place and the old Derry Church, a few miles eastward. Her mother, Sarah Gustine, was the daughter of Dr. Lemuel Gustine, of Carlisle, and was, at her death, in her 82d year, the last survivor of the Wyoming massacre. She was captured by the Indians when 4 years of age, but was finally released.
Mrs. Thompson's father, the Rev. Dr. Snowden, was the son of Isaac Snowden, a merchant who served during the Revolutionary war, without pay, as a commissioner, under the act of Congress in the issue of Continental currency, and was great grandson of John Snowden, a prominent merchant who was born in Philadelphia in 1685.
Her youngest brother was the late Hon. James Ross Snowden, of this city. Mrs. Thompson leaves four children to mourn her loss. Colonel J. Ross Thompson of Erie, late Democratic candidate for Supreme Judge in this state; Samuel Gustine Thompson, a prominent lawyer of this city; William E. Thompson, and two sisters, one being the wife of Samuel Robb, a member of the Philadelphia bar.
