Mary Ann Thornton

Mary Ann (Bates) Thornton was the second wife of John Edward Thornton (born 28 Mar 1821 in Smith County, Tennessee; died 6 Jul 1908 in Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri). The family traveled from Schuyler County, Illinois to Johnson County, Kansas and then finally back to Missouri by 1880 settling in Chariton County and later Pettis and Davies county.

Together they had four children: 1. Martha Louisa Mattie Thornton, b. 3 May 1850, d. 13 May 1921. 2. Susan Earline Thornton, b. c. 1852, d. 20 Oct 1872. 3. Donna Thornton, b. c. 1853, d. before 1860. 4. John A. Douglas Thornton, b. 15 Aug 1862, d. 20 Jun 1938

Step children included: (Mother: Susan E. Skiles) 1. Matilda Emaline Thornton, b. 1 Mar 1845, d. 25 Jan 1922. 2. Felix Ralston Thornton, b. 13 Aug 1843, d. 12 Jun 1935
