"Stramara, Daniel F. "Mary (Mapes) Wines, Daughter of Thomas Mapes of Southold, Long Island, New York", in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register. (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society), 159:127-130.
Investigates whether Mary married Samuel or Barnabas Wines, each case reported by several sources. Both Barnabas and Samuel had wives named Mary. The official records only contain a portion of the will of Thomas Mapes, but a transcription from 1935 names "my daughter Mary, the wife of Samuel [illegible]". The will of William Purrier, dated 13 Dec 1671, mentions "my Grandchilde Mary Windes" and daughter Sarah Mapes. The mother Sarah (Purrier) Mapes was born 1630 (age 5 on passenger list) and could not have had a child Mary born in 1638 to match Barnabas' wife (who d. 13 Jun 1727 aged 89)." [4]
If her husband was Barnabus Wines, then this profile can be merged with Mary (Mapes) Wines for which the birth date should be changed from 1638 to 1662. If it was Samuel Wines, Then [Mapes-168|Mary (Mapes) Wines]] is not the daughter of

Wife of Barnabas or Samuel Wines?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mapes-46

Several published genealogies have identified Mary's husband as Barnabas Wines. While her grand-father referred to her in his will as "Mary Windes," leaving her a cow and some sheets, there is no evidence for her husband's first name.

Stramara makes a convincing argument that Mary Mapes could not be the wife of Barnabas Wines, but is in fact the wife of his brother Samuel.[1]

The following citation is frequently cited, but cites no sources: "Mary Mapes, b. ca. 1638; d. at Southold, L.I., June 13, 1727; m. Barnabas Wines (Winds) Jr., b. at Watertown, Mass., ca. 1620-1623; d. at Southold, L.I., 1707"[2]
