About Matilda Hoyt
Below courtesy of findagrave member James Gilbertson (48197680)
(Died) In Sandgate on the 25th June, Matilda, wife of Henry Hoyt, aged 60. The circumstances of her death were peculiarly distressing. She with her sister, Mrs. M
in a one horse wagon were returning from an afternoon visit. Just before descending a steep hill, the horse showing some symptoms of uneasiness, Mrs. M got off the wagon: the horse soon after started, became unmanageable, and ran furiously down the hill. Mrs. Hoyt, was thrown from the wagon with the greatest violence, and taken up for dead She however lingered about a week, and died. Mrs. Hoyt had been a member of the M.E. Church for 26 years, and died resigned, leaving a bright evidence, that the loss her friends have sustained is her eternal gain.
