Matilda Mary McDowell

Matilda (Tilly) MacDowell, 90, formerly of 201 Crescent St., Sydney Mines, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in the Northside Guest Home, where she has been a resident for the past year. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Oram) Bruce. Before her marriage to her husband, John, she was employed with F.W. Woolworth Co., Sydney Mines. She was a lifelong member of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, where she was active in the senior choir, Women's Missionary Society and Ladies Guild. She loved the outdoors, especially travelling and camping. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Alfred) Nunn, New Campbellton; sons, Bruce (Ethel), New Campbellton, Tom (Ruth), Amherst; and brother, Edwin Bruce, Sydney Mines. She will be missed by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John, brother, David and sister, Elizabeth Carroll. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 8, at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Sunday, Dec. 9, at Clyde Avenue Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Barry Dixon officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or Alzheimer's Society.
