OBITUARY
MR. MATTHEW BRESLIN, SLEIGHBAWN
There was widespread sorrow and regret in Gorey District at the death of Mr.
Matthew Breslin, Sleighbawn, which occurred on Friday last [August 17, 1906].
The deceased, who had reaced the allotted span of three score years and ten,
had been in failing health for some time past. He was one of the rate
collectors of the Gorey [?] for upwards of 30 years, but when the Local
Government Act came into operation about seven years ago, he resigned the
position owing to failing health. He was a well-known and highly respected
resident of the district, and his funeral cortege on Sunday last to Monaseed
Cemetery testified to the esteem in which he was held by all creeds and
classes. The immediate relatives and friends of the deceased present at the
funeral were James, Matthew, Thomas, Michael, Patrick, James [probably means
Miles] and William Breslin (sons), Thomas Carroll, Brian Doran, Thomas O'Neill,
Daniel Berney and P J McDonagh (sons-in-law), Patrick and Matthew Carroll,
Peter Doran, John Neill, Matthew, Thomas and Patrick Breslin (grandsons).
High Mass and Office for the repose of deceased's soul was celebrated
in Monaseed Chapel on Monday last. Rev W. Sinnott, P P, Tomacork, presided,
Rev S. Cullen, C C, Monaseed, celebrated. In the choir were: -- Rev James
Redmond, C C, Gorey; Rev John Quigley, C C, Gorey; Rev A. Hickey, C C,
