About Matthys Van Dyke
Matthys bought from the heirs of Achais Van Dyke a farm and on May 23, 1712, he bought from the heirs of Col. Van Cortlandt, land at Red Hook, Brooklyn, where he lived in a fine stone mansion. This property was on Gowanus Bay opposite Governor's Island. According to Stiles's "History of Brooklyn", at page 61, Matthys Van Dyke conveyed this Red Hook estate to his son John, who is mentioned as one of his father's Executors in his will proved April 10, 1749 in 1708
Matthys left a Will on 8 March 1749 The Will was probated on 10 April 1749.
