About Mattias Noack
Mattias Noack (1949 - 2006)
Brief overview:
Mattias (57) left Belgium, his country of birth, to retire in South Africa in 2003 to open a nursery in Muldersdrift. He and his wife Susan returned home at 8.30pm on 27th September 2006 to find five attackers waiting for them. Noack was shot at three times and died at the scene.
Money, cellphones, a revolver and the couple's Nissan Almera were stolen. Susan was not harmed. In a prior incident in 2005 Mattia and Susan were attacked by four men in their driveway, along with two German tourists. Noack was shot in a leg. Susan recognised one of the perpetrators, a police inspector at Douglasdale police station where she worked as a receptionist. Noack and Susan became witnesses in the criminal trial against him.
West Rand police spokesperson Inspector Solomon Sibiya said the suspect, who can't be named until he has pleaded, appeared in the Krugersdorp magistrate's court, and the case was postponed until October 26. He was released on R2 000 bail. The police inspector is still on duty and has been transferred to Norwood police station pending an internal disciplinary hearing on October 10th 2006. Sibiya said the suspect would be charged with attempted murder and robbery.
