Matilda/Maud de Chesney

Not sure where above information giving father as Hugh de Cheney is from but according to Medlands it is not known which de Cheney brother was her father:

From Medlands:

[--- de Chesney . Matilda was presumably the daughter of one of the Chesney brothers who are named above. No information has been found which enables us to identify her father. It should be noted, as commented below, that William [I] de Chesney cannot be excluded as her father. m ---.] One child:

i) MATILDA de Chesney (-before 1198). Henry FitzGerold donated land in Sawbridgeworth, Herts to Reading abbey, naming "M. de Caisne uxori mee", by undated charter[2462]. Domesday Descendants says that she was heiress of William Chesney of Oxfordshire[2463]. H. E. Salter cites a charter which he says confirms that Matilda could not have been the daughter of William [I] de Chesney: "Henry de Dive dominus de Dadintone", in his capacity of “heir of William de Chesney quondam dominus de Dadington”, claimed the manor of Marston St Lawrence “which had belonged to his ancestor” from the canons at Lincoln by charter dated 1273[2464]. Henry de Dive was presumably descended from Lucy de Chesney, daughter of Ralph de Chesney (son of Hugh de Chesney, brother of William [I] de Chesney, see above), and her husband Guy de Dive. Salter comments that, if Matilda had been the daughter of William [I], her descendants and not those of Lucy de Chesney would have been his heirs. However, this comment assumes that William de Chesney who is named in Henry de Dive’s charter was William [I]: an alternative possibility is that he was William [II]. "Mathildis de Chaisnei" donated her part in "molendini de Clifton" to Eynsham abbey by charter dated to [1173/89][2465]. "Mathildis de Cheisnei" donated "unam hidam terre in uilla de Haiforde", previously held by “Hamelinus frater Petri de Chaisnei”, to Eynsham abbey by charter dated to [1173/89][2466]. The Rotuli de Dominabus of 1185 lists “Matillis de Kaineto”, with “ii filios; primogenitus est xviii annorum, alter xii” and “terra sua in Kameltone...vii libris annuatim”[2467]. m (before 1167) HENRY FitzGerold, son of ROBERT FitzGerold & his wife Alice --- (-[1174/75]).
