About Mauritz Bernard Polack (Esq)

On his DN place of birth as Amsterdam ,Holland .No source has been found to refute this or prove this as not being true. No birth record found yet for his place of birth as Amsterdam ,Holland or anywhere else as on his DN. Lost or destroyed a possiblity. No proof that his father was Benedictus Polack has been found anywhere. LIkely he was born as Mauritsz Polack or perhaps Morris Polak and likely in 1822 and very possibly in Amsterdam-- as his Death Notice states . Also name Morris on some DN 's of children .

See Death notice: Mauritz Bernard Polack Death 29 April 1872 South Africa 50 Deceased 1841 Amsterdam Holland 0. So - if he was 50y at time of death (stated on death notice) - that would mean that he was born in c 1822, if he died in 1872?

Harriet Frances Polack was born in March 1827 in London to Bernard Polack and Antonetta da Solla.

An elder brother, Mauritz, had been born in Amsterdam in 1822' ( supported by his DN and not disproved by any FACT or source - Amsterdam , Holland as his place of birth on his Death Notice a legally recognised document) - and completed his education there.

The family moved between Amsterdam and London, Bernard probably being employed in the wool, diamond or silversmithing trade. He died in London in the 1830s, leaving his wife and small daughter unprovided for. Antonette desperately tried to find employment and, wishing to ensure that the child was well cared for, took her to the Children's Friend Society Home for Girls in Chiswick.

death https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSQX-CG6B?i=1297&c... Different name for mother on his death notice .

His Sister Harriet Francis Polack lived in his house in Robertson till she married Hilde .

Name on DN of wife is Marius or Mauris Barnard Pollack ( I think this is a just recording mistake ie they wrote what they heard!) I believe that this name should be Mauritz Bernard, not Moritz, or Mauris, or Moris or Barnard- under investigation.

Parent's names : Bernard Andries Polak and Antonetta Maria, with his date of death : 1872 and age as 50, thus DOB calculated from that - as c1822 , names of some children , married with wife as C M Kaltwasser ( bottom of page, with her mark as x. ) Would this then mean she could not write her own name? ( Important to know - in relation to the Family Bible we have, where someone wrote in it - maybe then her daughter ?) Follow up here!

NB: Note also name of this child : Alfred Francis

https://www.saggrobertson.co.za/hoe-robertson-begin-het/

Maurits Bernard Polack, ’n onderwyser, het ’n brief op 22 September 1852 gerig aan Dr. Robertson en gevra dat ’n nuwe gemeente opgerig moet word.

Note his title esq - (on the gravestone of his wife ). That title esquire was given to him, because he was the deputy sheriff as well.

Note that on his child's death certificate - his name is recorded as Moritz Polack: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLQ7-541B

Marriage:
Note his name here is recorded as Barend not Bernard
