About Max a.k.a. Mordecai Herman
Max was a lover of food, people, family, his brothers and sisters, kids, grandkids, in laws and all his customers in the deli business. He was an active antique collector of mainly reproductions but also collected old phonographs like victrolas. He was very funny, always had a joke to tell. He was an avid amateur photographer, Lionel train conductor/collector who assembled his grandkids on the basement stairs, put on his Casey Jones train captain's hat, and we got to toot the train horn, if we earned it. He was into technology, audio and video. He was a man before his time, a self-taught man who dropped out of school at age 14 but he read National Geographic magazine. He passed away on a trip to visit my sister in England. We got postcards after his death reading "Having the time of my life." We were so happy that when he passed at the young age of 64, he was happy visiting Ireland and England with his granddaughter...
