About Maximilian Wolf

Birth record https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000141141566304

Despite records and reports emanating from Mahr. Weisskirchen / Hranice for more than a century, this Maxmilian Wolf, the son of Abraham Wolf, was not the noted composer. The following will clear up the confusion.

First, there were two Maximilian Wolfs born within weeks during the winter of 1840 in Mahr. Weisskirchen. The elder of two born in February was the son of Samuel SIgmund Wolf (a brother of Abraham Wolf) and evenutally enjoyed success as a composer before his death in 1886. Music historians include this Maximilian Wolf among the "minor masters" of the golden era. He was known for his military dirges and labeled “a brilliant pianist.”

This particular record is for Maximilian Wolf born in March 1840 to Abraham and who coincidentally married in 1886, but died in 1892.

To add further confusion, a third Maximilian Wolf was born in Mahr. Weisskirchen just four years before the two others. Israel Wolf, a cousin to Samuel Sigmund and Abraham, had his Maximilian in 1836. We have found no further records, yet, about this Max.
