LUCIE, FL -- Colonel McDonald (Chan) Godfrey, World War II and family hero, formerly of Albany, New York passed away Sunday, July 27, 1997. Colonel Godfrey was a retired officer and fighter pilot for the 352nd fighter group of the 8th Air Force. He was an Ex-POW of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient and a Vietnam Veteran. He was also active in the Savannah Club Disaster Preparedness in Port St. Lucie, as well as a member of the BPO-Elks Lodge #2658 of Port St. Lucie and a volunteer of the SHINE Organization. Colonel Godfrey was the loving son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Edward S. Godfrey, Jr. of Albany, New York. Colonel Godfrey is survived by his wife, Norma Fowler Godfrey; his brother, Edward S. Godfrey, III; his children, Suzanne Godfrey-Giggins, Edward S. Godfrey, IV, Wendy Godfrey-Dean and son-in-law, Robert L. Dean, III. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily and Amanda Giggins, Marcie, Emma and Jordan Dean. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at 3:00 p.m., at Aycock Funeral Home Chapel, Port St. Lucie. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Albany, New York.
