  • I MERCY CHEW of the Town of Alexandria in Virginia being sick and weak .. bequeath to my Brother, PHILIP JACKSON, Fifteen pounds; to my loving daughter ANN RUTH GARVEY, now in the Island of St. Kits all my wearing apparel .. also my old negro wench
  • if she can conveniently be sent to her in the meantime that she be hired out and the profits arising be paid my daughter; to my grand-
  • daughter, ANN RUTH GARVEY, the daughter of LUCAS and ANN RUTH GARVEY, in the Island of St. Kits, my lot of ground lying on Fairfax and Queen streets in Town of Alexandria (on her arriving at age of Eighteen).
  • My will that my Executors rent out on ground rent forever said part of the said Lot as they may judge best for the benefit of my granddaughter .. to be paid her Father, LUCAS GARVEY .. in case of the death of my granddaughter without heirs I bequeath my said Lot to my grandsons, LUCAS & JOHN GARVEY, to be equally divided betwixt them ..
  • to my son, WILLIAM MANDUIT, Merchant in London and my daughter, ANN RUTH GARVEY, the whole remainder of my Estate .. out of my daughters portion fifty pounds be paid my son in law, LUCAS GARVEY, for mourning.
  • I appoint JOHN DALTON, GEORGE GILPIN and ROBERT HANSON HARRISON Executors .. this 1st November 1775.
