Michael George Wallace Benson was born at Marikuppam in Madras, India, in 1922. He was the son of Capt. Ernest Wallace Benson, M.C. and Evelyn Mary Ainslie.British India Office. Michael attended the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.[2]

Towards the end of WWII, he was promoted to Lieutenant on the 1st March 1944.[3] The Polish government awarded Lieut. Benson the Silver Cross of Merit with Swords on the 1st August 1944.</ref>The National Archives (UK). Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972. Sub. Lieut. After the war, Lieut. Benson was seconded to the Australian navy for two years, commencing 23rd August 1948.[3]

Mr. Benson concluded his naval career with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.[4]

Lieut.-Commander Michael George Wallace Benson, RN, died at Alverstoke, Hampshire, on the 15th January 1975, aged fifty-two years.[1][5]
