Michael J. Greco

Michael J. Greco, age 85, died suddenly near his winter residence in Highland Beach, Florida, on January 11, 2015. His daughter Maryann Greco Clow was at his side. A long-time resident of Pelham Manor, Mike was born in the Bronx to Florence and Michael Greco. He was educated at Mount Saint Michael Academy, Iona College and New York Law School. After service in the US Army, Mike worked as an attorney for more than 50 years, primarily in New York City. Renowned for his courtroom skills, he specialized in eminent domain law. In 1958 Mike married Joan Carroll of Philadelphia. In nearly 50 years before Joan's death in 2008 they raised five children and welcomed 11 grandchildren. Mike was devoted to each one. Mike is survived by his children: John Greco (Patricia) of Arlington, VA; Michele Maydwell (Daniel) of Pelham, NY; Carol Ann McCarthy (John) of Westwood, MA; Maryann Clow (Stephen) of Harrison, NY; and Fr. Michael Greco, OFM Cap., of Brooklyn, NY. His sister-in-law, Cecelia Hanley Greco of Stamford, CT, also survives him. In addition to Joan, a sister and four brothers who survived into adulthood predeceased Mike. Warm, engaging and deeply religious, Mike was admired for his extraordinary generosity and supported numerous organizations and causes. His ultimate gift was of his body, which is being donated for medical education to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Interment will be held at a later date. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Ave., Pelham, NY at 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 17th. As there is no wake, the family asks that flowers not be sent. If people would like to honor his memory, a burse had been established in the names of Mike and Joan Greco for the education of seminarians in the Capuchin Order.
