VAN METER, Iowa (KCCI) — Dozens of central Iowans attended the funeral of a Vietnam War veteran who had no family or friends to mourn him.
Des Moines native Michael Housh’s cremains were buried Friday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. He was 72 and suffered from dementia.
Housh died in April without any living relatives or known friends, so that’s when strangers stepped in. Some people felt compelled to honor a connection that can only be described as a brotherhood.
