Michael Kolb

"My grandfather, Roman Jacob Willenbring, told me a recollection about his mother's father (his grandfather), Michael Kolb. He remembered him smoking a white power when he had a cough (or perhaps it was asthma.) I believe he told me that Michael was a veterinarian. Roman told me the story because I was studying herbs for healing. I became intrigued by this man who used the native plants for healing, and I wondered what the white powder was. Lobelia (inflata) was used by Native Americans as a treatment for respiratory ailments like bronchitis, asthma and even pneumonia. I googled "Lobelia, Indian Tobacco" and was informed that as a powder it can be violet, blue or "sapphire white."" Deborah Sundahl
