Michael Govander Pillay, a businessman from KwaZulu-Natal, was ambushed, dragged out of his vehicle, and shot dead, on 31st January 2003, when he was driving through a sugar plantation in Umkomaas. His car was used by his murderers as a get-away car, but was later found abandoned.
A number of the Indian community were murdered, and found dumped in sugar cane plantations in KwaZulu-Natal during the course of this year.
