Michel Calix Cartier was the son of Joseph Pierre Cartier and Mathilde Houle.
He married Laura Belle Van Elsberg on June 1, 1904, in Circle Pines, Anoka County, Minnesota. They had eight children, four of whom survived to adulthood: Frances, Roy, Dorothy, and Ruth Ann. They moved to Eastside, Coos County in the mid-1940s. Belle Cartier died May 30, 1949 in Coos Bay.
Michel married Mary Emma Peloquin on August 2, 1951 in Hugo, Washington County, Minnesota. They made their home in Eastside, OR.
