On October 06, 1944, at age 31, Mihkel was killed aboard the Nordsterni boat torpedoed by the Russians.Hukkunud laeva "Nordsterni" katastroofis. Mihkel was with his sister Marie Ester/Rumma, her three children, and the Rumma family. On 6 October, Soviet submarine ShCh-407 torpedoed and sunk German merchant Nordstern (1127 GRT) west of Klaipeda.[4] Nordstern boat, which left Kuressaare on October 3. 1944 was destroyed by a torpedo by a Russian submarine. Many people died along with the rapidly sinking ships. The observation of one survivor is particularly depressing: he did not see any children among the rescued.
