MILTON SANT JR. July 31, 1934-Oct. 12, 2014 Milton "Bud" Sant Jr. was born July 31, 1934, in Salt Lake City, to Milton and Irva Sant. Milton passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old Oct. 12, 2014. Milton "Bud" Sant enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and trained with the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Division. After training he was sent to Korea, where he was transferred to the 45th Division and fought in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1953. When Bud returned from the service, he worked in California doing masonry work and then was employed as a machinist in an aircraft factory. Milton joined the Henderson Police Department as a motorcycle officer in 1959 and served for over seven years. During that time, he taught city ordinance and state statues, completed courses in criminal laws, laws of arrest, and civil law. He also lectured on traffic safety, upon request, to the Lake Mead Marine Base, Nellis AFB, Titanium Metals, California Pacific Utilities and various service clubs, organizations, PTA, and high schools. Milton was instrumental in obtaining flashing school zone lights and speed zones on Highway 41 and drew up the master plan for stop and yield signs. He served as a board member of the Henderson Social Services (two years), represented Henderson on the Safety Committee of Clark County School District (three years), was supervisor of the Henderson School Patrol (three years), and past president of the Henderson Police Benevolent Association. Milton was elected municipal judge for the City of Henderson in 1967 and served until 1969. He was known as a man who was fair and knew the law. Milton also served for 24 years as deputy constable in Henderson under F. C. "Fritz" Crisler. Milton retired with a total of 30 years law enforcement in 1990. He retired as a senior investigator for the Taxi Cab Authority in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Keith and Douglas Sant; sister, Bettie Sant; son, Milton Michael Sant; as well as his parents, Milton and Irva Sant. Milton is survived by his sister, Naomi (nee Sant) Groft; brothers, Smedley Sant and Jay Sant; his daughter, Alison (nee Sant) Abrams; and his significant other; Rachel Burd. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. Visitation again 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with services following, all at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.
