Milton Waldman, eighty years of age, passed away on March 6, 1976 in a London hospital.

He was a writer, editor, and publisher who specialized in Renaissance biographies.

A native of Cleveland, Mr. Waldman had made his home in London for more than forty-five years. He had been a literary adviser for twenty-seven years with William Collins Sons & Company, the publishing house, of which he had also been director.

His popular biographies included three about Elizabeth I—"England's Elizabeth," published in 1933; "Elizabeth and Leicester" (1944), which stressed the longtime importance of the Earl of Leicester in the monarch's reign, and "Queen Elizabeth," (1952), part of a "Brief Lives" series of great men and women in British and American history.

His first book, "Americana," published in 1925, was a survey of American literature beginning with the letters and diaries of the first European explorers.

His biographical works included "Sir Walter Raleigh" (1928); "Joan of Arc" (1935); "Biography of a Family: Catherine de Medici and Her Children" (1936), dealing with the iron‐willed 16th‐century queen of France and her upbringing of five kings and a queen; "Rod of Iron" (1941), a history of English tyrants, and "The Lady Mary" (1972), about Mary Tudor. He also wrote articles and reviews for many periodicals.

Before joining Collins, Mr. Waldman was an assistant editor of the London Mercury and literary adviser for Longmans, Green & Company. For three years he was a managing director of the Rupert Hart‐Davis Ltd. publishing house.

A graduate of Yale, he served in the United States Army in World War I. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Letters.

He is survived by a son, Guido; two daughters, Jehanne Marchesi and Giselle; a brother, Myron; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Ira Waldman; and two sons, Terence and Benjamin.
