The Colorado Marriage Record Report for Bertha shows her name listed as Minnie Bertha Classen. She married Maximillian Mayer, April 9, 1898, in Denver. Colorado. In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census for Denver, she was listed as Bertha, 28, with her husband, Max, 40, and their 1 year old daughter, Elsie, born in January of 1899, and daughter, Pearl, who was 1 month old, having been born in April of 1900. The census was enumerated on June 1st. Also living in their home was a servant by the name of Albert Leffele, 30 years old. This record shows Max was born in October of 1859 and Bertha in May of 1872. Both Max and Bertha were born in Germany, their two daughters in Colorado, and their servant was born in Switzerland. Max was working as a gardener of vegetables and the servant was listed as a garden hand. They were renting their home which was located at 3768 Perry Street.

By 1910 they were living in Englewood, Arapahoe County, Colorado, but sadly their daughter Elsie was not living with them, so she must have passed away sometime between 1900 and 1910. A Baltimore, Maryland, Passenger List showed that Bertha Classen arrived there April 11, 1888, at age 16 years old. No occupation was listed for her on that record.
