About Montague Steele

Montague was a Second Lieutenant, serving eight months in Samoa with the original expeditionary force as a corporal of signallers, and after his return re- enlisted in the Seventh Reinforcements, gaining a commission in the Auckland Infantry Battalion. In Egypt and France he was given command of a machine gun unit.
