About Montie Daniel Helm
MOSCOW - Montie Daniel Helm, a retired farmer and longtime Troy, Idaho, resident, died of complications of diabetes Friday July 29, 1994 at Gritman Medical Center at Moscow. He was 84.
He was born Sept. 5, 1909, at Troy, to Daniel C. and Ressia Roberts Helm. He was raised on the family farm and attended Bond Country School on Driscoll Ridge near his home. He helped his family on the farm and took it over when his father retired.
He and Viola G. Swenson were married March 7, 1942, at Moscow. They lived on the Helm family farm and celebrated their 50th wedding in 1992. She died May 28, 1992.
He lived in the same home throughout his lifetime.
He was a member of the Troy Lutheran Church and the Troy Christian Church. He was also a member of the Troy Grange, Troy Lion's Club and the International Order of Odd Fellows. He and his wife had also been members of the Moscow Roadrunners Group and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
He also served for nine years as a Latah County Grain Growers directors.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Johnson of Moscow, Betty Sawyer of Potlatch, Idaho, and Janet Hattrup of Cottonwood; a sister, Rose Hatley of Pullman; 13 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A sister, Alpha Procunier, and two brothers, Harley and Eldon Helm, died previously.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Short's Funeral Chapel at Moscow.
His funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Short's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Marc Stroud of the Troy Lutheran Church officiating.
