A Moses Löbl Kanitz appears in JewishGen.org's Who's Who in Budapest as "Wholesaler, 1837." Also appearing same source, with the same occupation, is Emanuel Kanitz.
In (Wien) Firmenbuch 1859, at Digital Wien Bibliotek, M.L. Kanitz and his son Emanuel appear on p. 83: Besitzer des Grosshandlungs since 1843 (image #85, sec. I-K).
In Adolph Lehmann's allgemeiner Wohnungs-Anzeiger for 1860, online at WienBibliotekDigital, Moses Lowy Kanitz and Emanuel Kanitz both appear as Großhandler, M.L. Kanitz & Sohn.
In History of the Jews in Vienna (Geschichte der Juden in Wien, by G. Wolf, 1876), M.L. Kanitz is referred to on page 206 (scan image 212/213). Refers to founding of a Deaf Institute in 1852 at Meidling bei Wien. Donations made it possible to buy in Rudolfsgasse, in Vienna's Landstrasse [district], a site on which a building appropriate to the needs [was constructed]. M.L. Kanitz was "especially deserving" in bringing the new building to its conclusion; it was "inaugurated" Oct. 17, 1858.
M.L. Kanitz mentioned in Die Neuzeit, Sept. 12, 1862, page 434 of the publication, as benefactor of a hospital in Pest.
M.L. Kanitz mentioned in Die Neuzeit, May 8, 1863, page 224 of the publication: unveiling of his portrait as "a great benefactor."
