Moses Warner's birth is given in the Andrew Warner text as Sept. 30 or April, 1715 in Hadley. He was one of the non-commissioned officers under Capt. nathaniel Dwight of Belchertown on the expedition to Crown Point, 1755. With his brother Aaron, he removed to Amherst and was among the first settlers there. He owned several pieces of land there and his name appears frequently in town records. He kept an inn for many years, as early as 1757 and as late as 1772. In the introduction to the 1884 edition of the Amherst records, by J.F. Jameson, the following is stated: "The 'Inhabitants' are very amusing in the prefrence they exhibit for the schoolhouse near Landlord Warner's tavern as the place to which to adjourn their meetings. Doubtless the meeting-house was cold; and doubtless Landlord Warner knew how to warm the chilled voters."
