Moshe Dothan

Prof. Moshe Dothan, one of the founding members of the Department of Maritime Civilizations and the Department of Archaeology at the University of Haifa passed away on the 9th of September 1999. Mo Dothan (* 1919 in Poland; † 9. September 1999) was more polnischstämmiger Biblical archaeologist in Israel.

Dothan was born 1919 in Poland and came 1938 to Israel. After the arrival it began with the study. By the political events it succeeded to the time to Dothan however only since 1948 to dedicate itself to its academic career completely. משה דותן נולד בקרקוב שבפולין בה גדל. ב-1938 עלה לישראל

דותן היה נשוי לארכאולוגית כלת פרס ישראל טרודה דותן, ואב לשניים: הזמר דני דותן (הקליק) ואורי

מהמלכה אליזבת באהבה: 32 מוותיקי ארגון נכי צה"ל, שנפצעו במהלך מלחמת העולם השנייה, יקבלו בקרוב את אות משרד הביטחון הבריטי מטעם מלכת בריטניה, כהוקרה על תרומתם במאבק בנאצים.

בטקס יובאו כמה מסיפורי הלוחמים. בניהם זה של משה דותן (92), שנפל בשבי הנאצים בשנת 1941, בעת ששירת בבריגדה היהודית. במשך ארבע שנים שהה דותן במחנות עבודה וגם באוושויץ, עד ששוחרר לקראת תום המלחמה.
