Additional Biographical Information:
David Dlali was born on 23 January 1960, in Mount Frere, in the Eastern Province (now Eastern Cape). He was a former underground operative of the ANC’s armed wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK).
Dlali served in various African National Congress (ANC) provincial structures in the Western Cape, including as a member of the provincial executive committee and chairperson of the Dullah Omar region.
He served as an ANC Member of Parliament representing Gugulethu between 2001 and 2009, before joining the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities as special adviser to Minister Lulu Xingwana.
While in parliament Dlali served as a committee member on the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Land Affairs. He once caused a stir by stating that all white farmers were guilty of evicting farm workers. He also served as a committee member on the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry.
