Murdoch Mackenzie of Letterewe, here treated, is the eldest son and heir of John Mackenzie, 3rd of Letterewe and his wife Katherine Mackenzie He enlisted in the 78th Regiment of Foot Mackenzie History: 456 and attained the rank of Captain. NRS: GD305/2/2049
Death
Murdoch Mackenzie of Letterewe is reported to have died in India, although the date of his death was not identified. Mackenzie History: 459 His regiment embarked for India in February 1797 and saw action at the Battle of Assaye in September 1803 but Murdoch Mackenzie of Letterewe must have died before this last date because his brother Alexander Mackenzie, 5th of Letterewe was already in possession of the Letterewe estate by 1 October 1800.
