<p>Muriel was born in Johannesburg, family lore says that she was the youngest 'laat lammetjie" to her brothers and sisters, by 20 years and at time of death, both her parents were deceased. She was 41 yrs 7 months old at time of death.</p> <p> </p> <p>Further folk lore says that her family were part of the Salvation Army but nothing has been found so far to confirm this. Apparently when she married Lyle, she could not boil an egg, cook or clean, as she had never had to do anything like that at home, because the rest of the family did everything for her. She played tennis and would sometimes not come home to Lyle and Moyra, because she would be partying.</p> <p> </p> <p>Muriel taught Moyra how to darn socks and knit, and also made a beautiful wedding dress for Moyra's doll. However it can also be remembered by Moyra that she tipped a plate of spagetti bolognaise over Moyra's head and a little boy [don't know which son] who was in a high chair, because they wouldn't eat the food. She also made Moyra sit with her nose to the kitchen table for - it felt like the entire afternoon - because Moyra had messed in her brooks, by not going to the toilet.</p> <p> </p> <p>The death notice has next to the surviving spouse, Lyle Frederic Whitfield, the letters R/C issued 29/7/65. Do not know what this means. The death notice was signed by her husband Lyle Frederic on 11 November 1963, as husband "near place of death"</p> <p> </p> <p>Muriel died at home, gassing herself and her son Keith malcolm Whifield in their Angla car, in the garage. Was discovered by daughter Moyra on her return from school. She got a lift home from a friend, because her mother had not fetched her, and found the garage door standing slightly open, and a hose pipe leading from the exhaust intothe car. The car was no longer running, but Moyra turned off the ignition and then got into the car, looking for her brother, after trying to wake up her mother. She found him lying on the floor of the car at the back, and picked him up and put him onto the seat at the back.</p> <p> </p> <p>Moyra then left the car and the garage and that is the last that she can remember, until the sun was setting that afternoon, and she was at the next door neighbour, sitting under the hedge between the two gardens.</p> <p> </p> <p>According to her Aunt Joan, Moyra ran screaming down the driveway to the neighbours who phoned her father Lyle.</p> <p> </p> <p>Muriel and her son Keith were buried at the same time in Kempton Park.</p>
