About NN de Caux de Canville
This profile may represent two or possibly three generations.
This person, or these persons, was or were lord(s) of "Canuille" in the Pays de Caux, Normandy.
The family name is consistently listed as "de Canouville" on the Battle Abbey roll compilation, the Dives-sur-Mer plaque, and the Falaise Roll, which suggests that the family actually originated, not from Canville-les-Deux-Eglises (arrondissement Rouen, canton Yvetot) as popularly thought and taught, but from Canouville, arrondissement Dieppe, canton Saint-Valery-en-Caux. (Canouville is apparently much older, with archaeological remains dating back to Gallo-Roman times.)
