"Mrs Ferdinand Allen was 15 years old when she married and joined a wagon train coming across the plains in 1800's. She and Ferdinand had 13 children. They lost seven, three at one time with diphtheria. Settled in the Salem, Oregon area where her husband built the first school. Later they went back to Missouri and Iowa for a few years, making the Yakima Valley home.
