About Nathan Hanks

Nathan Hanks migrated from NC to Darlington Co. SC, probably in the 1820s. He operated a store that contained the Mount Elon postoffice. Later, he was elected sheriff of Darlington County.

Before migrating to Alabama, Hanks appears to have settled briefly in Clarksville, Habersham Co. GA for, after moving to Pickens Co. AL, he authorized another to sell a lot for him in Clarksville. That is also where his son-in-law Kinchen Best operated a store.
