Nathaniel was born August 6, 1694 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Nathaniel Alden and Hepzibah Mountjoy. When his father died in 1701, the estate was insolvent and Benjamin Gallop was appointed as his guardian.

Seems to be sometimes confused with his cousin[1], also a Nathaniel Alden of Boston.
