Is he stepson of Thomas Gould? Wyman reports the undated will of Thomas Gould (abt.1607-1675) refers to "my son Nathaniel Haywood,"[7] but the will on record shows the name as "Nathaniell Hayward."[8]
Possible associations in support of this identification found in Wyman who writes, Nathaniel ("Nathaniel Howard"), "Connected with the Baptists, 1669," and mentions "buys of J. Gooding ..."[9] Reference to Nathaniel's association with the Baptists found in Wyman's unpublished court file abstracts.[10]
This Thomas Gould (abt.1607-1675) founded the First Baptist Church at Massachusetts Bay, and was imprisoned as a result. Thomas Gould marred (2), before 1654, Mary ______ (possibly nee Harris). widow of _____ Hayward or Howard. His daughter by first marriage, Mehitable Gould, married James Gooding. Thomas and Mary's daughter Elizabeth testified in 1671 and named an uncle, John Harris in a deposition.
