About Nellie May Madison
(As told by Nellie's daughter, Clara Madison Edmisten).
Nellie May had a rather hard childhood. Her father had been a very respected citizen and a deacon of the church, but became an alcoholic. This caused the family a good deal of suffering because it reached a point where he couldn't make a living. His sons had to work to support the family. He died an alcoholic.
Nellie was quiet and soft spoken. She crocheted, made quilts, and did some sewing. She made clothes for her daughters.
Nellie was quiet and dignified, but she did have a sense of humor. Her sons were clowns and she got quite a kick out of their pranks and practical jokes.
Nellie died from a stroke.
