About Nellie Etta Obourn
from Ellsworth S. Obourn's biography in Science Education, February 1963: Etta Thurston Obourn was a native of Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Her family migrated from England prior to the Revolutionary War. Several of her relatives fought in the Revolutionary War.
From her obituary: Mrs. Obourn was a very quiet and unassuming lady, one who had many friends and was much loved by those with whom she came in daily contact because of her kind and sympathetic nature. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was active in its work and will be greatly missed there as well as by her friends and family.
From the memories of Robert Lyle Obourn compiled for the 1990 family reunion: Her family originally came from Charleston, NC where they settled about 1640. The original Thurston was a shipwright. She was a very precise person who believed that cleanliness was next to Godliness.
