A manuscript narrating the history of Brecknock priory records that the founder “Bernard de Nefmarche, Norman” married “Neste qe fut apele Agnes, la file Griffin le fiz Lewelin…cruel tyrant de Gales” by whom he fathered “Mael…noble chevalier” whom it was claimed was not his son and who was deprived of Brecknock in favour of “la file [de] Neste, Sibile” wife of “Miles…fiz Watir le conestable de Gloucestre e de Hereford”[135]. m BERNARD de Neufmarché, son of GEOFFROY de Neufmarché & his wife Ada --- (-1125). “Bernardus de Novo-mercato” donated property to Breckon priory, for the soul of “Philippi filii mei”, by charter dated to the reign of King Henry I[136].

Fleance and his father Banquo are both fictional characters presented as historical fact by Hector Boece, whose Scotorum Historiae (1526–27) was a source for Raphael Holinshed's Chronicles,[1] a history of the British Isles popular in Shakespeare's time. In the Chronicles, Fleance—in fear of Macbeth—flees to Wales and marries Nesta verch Gruffydd, daughter of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, the last native Prince of Wales.

They have a son named Walter who makes his way back to Scotland and is appointed Royal Steward. According to legend, he fathered the Stuart monarchs of England and Scotland.[2]

The Stuarts used their connection with Fleance and his marriage to the Welsh princess to claim a genealogical link with the legendary King Arthur. This, they hoped, would strengthen the legitimacy of their throne.[3] In 1722, however, Richard Hay, a Scottish historian, presented strong evidence that not only was James not a descendant of Fleance, but also that both Fleance and Banquo never even existed. Most modern scholars now agree that Fleance is not a real historical figure.[4]

Excerpt from The Consorts and Children of Gruffudd ap Llewelyn

Gruffudd also had a daughter, Nest, who married Trahaearn ap Caradog. This man, in 1075, succeeded Bleddyn ap Cynfyn as king of Powys, and probably also king of Gwynedd. Born c. 1035, Trahaearn had sons Owain and Llywarch (among others) who were born c. 1065/1070. These dates point to c. 1050 as the birthdate of Nest, with the marriage taking place shortly after Gruffudd's death in 1063.

Gruffudd had a second daughter, also named Nest, about 1056. It is known that this second Nest was the mother of a daughter, also named Nest, who married the Norman knight Bernard Newmarch. The husband of this c. 1056 Nest is widely cited by modern authors as the Norman man, Osbern fitz Richard. There are, however, no ancient or even medieval manuscripts which confirm that marriage. Nesta Ferch Gruffyd is reputedly the daughter of King Gruffyd ap Llywelyn of Wales and Ealdgyth / Edith of Mercia.....By immediate ancestry, Edith of Mercia was the daughter of Aelfgar / Earl of Mercia and his wife Aelgifu. Earl Aelfgar's father was Earl Leofric of East Anglia, husband of Lady Godiva.....Subsequent to the murder of King Gruffyd in 1063, Edith married Earl Harold Godwineson, albeit probably unwillingly. With the brief accession of Earl Harold to the throne in 1066 as King Harold II, Edith briefly became the last Saxon "queen" of England.
