About Nettie Mary Thornton
Charles and Nettie Thornton were married in Republic,Washington on November 1st, 1917. They lived for a few years in Ferry, Washington then moved to Spokane, Washington. Both had a "love" for "Gold Mining" and mined on Boundry Creek always hoping the "Strike it Rich". Their early years of marriage was some times very hard. They went thru the Depression of the 1930's and their son Lawrence was sick most of his life, so medical, medicine, and hospital bills kept them living on a shoestring.
Charles worked at the Ohio Match Co. and won a car at work on a raffle ticket. He bought two tickets and the 1st one drawn was his, everyone complained that it should be the third ticket drawn that won the car, so Charles agreed and his 2nd ticket was the 3rd one drawn, he was meant to have the car ! Nettie played both the piano and Concertina by ear and loved to sing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling". She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Everyone will remember Charles singing "Back in The Saddle" when he had a few too many to drink. He retired from the White Pine Sash Co. and they bought and remodeled their home. Nettie passed away in 1962 and Charles in 1967. They will always be remembered and loved by all who knew them.
