About Nicholas Cottrell, III
Nicholas Cottrell was a prominent citizen of Westerly and was Town Councilman for several years. He also served in the early Colonial Wars. His wife Dorthy was admitted to membership in the Stonington Church in July 24, 1709, and her first two children were baptized there a week later.
In 1705 Nicholas married Dorthy Pendleton daughter of James Pendlleton b. England 1620 d. Westerly Nov 29 1709 and Hannah (Goodenow) Pendelton, d. Westerly Nov 29, 1709, (see Ancestors and Descendants of the Rev Henry Clarke and Catherine Pendleton by C.C. Van Deventar 1902). Nicholas Cottrell was a prominent citizen of Westerly and was Town Councilman for several years. He also served in the early Colonial Wars. Nicholas Cottrell married Dorothy Pendleton, daughter of Capt James and Hannah Goodenow Pendleton in March 1706 at Stonington. The following deposition identifies the marriage:
We the Deponants Being Nigh Neighbors to Capt. James Pendleton of s'd Westerly We the Depoants Well Knew him and his wife Hannah Pendleton & their Deputed Children, The first Joseph Pendleton by the s'd Hannah and the 2nd Was Edmond, the third Was Caleb the next is Ann, the next was Elenor, the next was Dorithy, We the deponants further Sayeth that the above Named Children was the Deputed Children of ye above s'd Capt. James Pendleton & his Wife Hannah as above s'd Which daughters above mentioned was married, Ann to Elezer Brown, Elinor Was Married to Wm. Walker , Dorithy to Nicholas Cottrill

"Nicholas Cottrell (son of Nicholas (2), son of Nicholas (1)) born 1685. died 1727. married Dorothy Pendleton in March 1706 at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut. He was a prominent citizen of Westerly and was Town Councilman several years.
Children: Dorothy bapt July 31, 1709; mar Dec 22, 1726 at Westerly John Randall(3rd).
